solarOS is the system your company runs on: sales, field service, customer relationships, and subscription maintenance plans in one place. This page orients you before you touch any data.
What you'll accomplish
Get oriented: know what each part of the app is for, and understand that your customers use a separate, simpler surface (the customer portal) that you don't manage from here.
Prerequisites
- An organization already created by someone on your team, or you're about to create one yourself (see First-day setup).
- A solarOS account you can sign in with.
Steps
1. Log in
Sign in at your organization's solarOS URL. If you were invited by a teammate, use the invite link from your email; it signs you in and attaches you to their organization automatically.
2. Tour the top navigation
Across the top of the app you'll see seven modules. Which ones you can see depends on your role:
| Module | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Your personal or organization-wide overview. |
| Monitoring | Fleet sites, insights, alerts, and monitoring subscriptions. |
| Sales | Customers, leads, opportunities, quotes, and the contractor marketplace. |
| Operations | Projects, dispatch, work orders, cases, and inventory. |
| Accounting | Invoices, payments, and billing. |
| Analytics | Reporting across the organization. |
| Settings | Company profile, team, catalog, and integrations. |
3. Understand the customer portal is separate
Your customers don't log into the app you're using. They have their own customer portal, a separate, read-only-by-default surface where they view their property, monitoring data, invoices, and service history. You never need to log into it as staff; it's a different surface entirely, not a hidden tab in your app.
Verify it worked
You can name what each of the seven top-nav modules is for, and you can explain that the customer portal is a different surface from the one you're using.
Common problems
A module you expect to see is missing. Top-nav visibility is
permission-gated: for example, Sales only shows if your role has
nav.sales.view (or a related permission). If a module you need is missing,
ask an Owner or Admin to check your role. See the
permissions matrix for what each role can see.
